Amazon Fire TV Stick: the Aroma IPTV walkthrough
The stick most households here already own. Everything about it is ordinary except one detour: no IPTV player is carried in the Amazon store, so the player has to arrive through Downloader.
Have these in front of you
- A Fire TV Stick that is switched on and already sitting on your home network
- The server address, username and password from your Aroma IPTV welcome mail
- Six minutes when nobody else needs the television
Turn on developer installs
Open Settings, then My Fire TV, then About, and press the device name seven times until the Stick announces that you are now a developer. Step back one screen and open Developer Options. Recent Fire OS builds keep that menu hidden until the seven presses have been made, which is where most first attempts stall before anything has actually been downloaded.
Install Downloader and permit it to install apps
Search the Amazon store for Downloader and install it. Return to Developer Options, open Install Unknown Apps, and grant the permission to Downloader by name rather than leaving a global switch on. Granting it per app takes the same ten seconds and leaves the device in a tidier state once you have finished.
Fetch the player
Open Downloader, type the short numeric code printed on our apps page into the address box, and let the file finish downloading before you press Install. Amazon carries no player of this kind, which is the only reason this detour exists. When the install completes, choose Delete twice so the installer file is not left occupying space on a device that has very little to spare.
Sign in with Xtream Codes
Open the player and choose the Xtream Codes login rather than the playlist option. Type the server address, username and password exactly as they appear in your mail, capital letters included. Every line on this service is delivered as Xtream Codes, so there is no portal address and no MAC address to enter anywhere on a Fire Stick.
Check one Arabic channel and one 4K channel
The first catalogue load takes a minute or two and is cached afterwards. Open an Arabic news channel to confirm the line is live, then open a 4K channel to see how the hardware copes. If the 4K one breaks up while the news channel stays clean, the line is working and you are looking at the limit of the Stick rather than a fault.
Quirks of this platform
- Ethernet is the one thing this hardware cannot do unaided - look all round a Fire Stick and there is no socket for it. A powered USB adapter that adds one settles more evening stutter than buying a newer Stick does.
- Storage is the real constraint on this hardware. Delete every installer after it has done its job and the device stays responsive for years.
- If a channel that played yesterday refuses today, open the same channel on a phone before deciding the Stick is at fault.
